In a recent interview, our new Chief Information Officer, Alan Horton, discussed his leadership, team building, and software development approach.
ALAN HORTON
Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Medlogix

With your diverse experience before joining the company, what drew you to Medlogix?
One of the things I looked for was a great team.
Our team has a tremendous amount of experience in the industry, and understands the industry really well. They pride themselves on listening to our customers, and helping them achieve their business objectives. They care about our customers’ success.
I believe MyMedlogix is a great platform. It allows us to work effectively through the entire workflow in one software solution, which sets us apart from our competitors.
What's your approach to building a team? What's your team leadership approach?
My primary responsibility is to enable our team to do great things and work alongside them. I listen to our customers and the people who work with me. Together, we build world-class teams and by paying attention to what's happening in the market we translate that into real solutions.

How has your experience helped your approach at Medlogix?
Most of my professional career has been in the healthcare industry with SaaS products and services, and I've performed most of the roles that my team does today. I believe this gives me unique perspective to connect with our talented team, and appreciate the value that MyMedlogix brings to our Customers
You once said in a prior interview, "Software is a living entity." Can you explain that?
Yes, I believe software is a living entity. The more energy you put into it, the more it can do. You could stop adding, extending, and move on to something else. Or you can choose to evolve it into something bigger and more significant than it was.
You can deliver significant value by innovating as you learn what's happening with our customers, end users, and the marketplace. Living software should adapt and continue to evolve to meet those needs
Sometimes, companies are resistant to change software due to the effort required. How do you approach that?
Understanding the motivations behind resistance to change to new technology is essential. Does the pain of changing exceed the pain of the current solution? We don’t sell - we help. With that mindset, we learn what Customers are trying to achieve and then help them achieve that
What is the importance of user experience in developing technology?
Unless you are a technologist, you don't want to spend time and effort needed to figure out software. We aim to make software easier, better, and more effective for individuals to do their jobs.
That is why MyMedlogix is a single platform that works from end-to-end for the entire medical claims process. This allows users to focus on the business side of what they are trying to accomplish. Software is an enabler—that is why user experience is so important. The MyMedlogix platform is built to make the user experience seamless, so it is effective in helping our customers get their jobs done.

What does the company tagline "expect exceptional" mean to you?
That tagline of being exceptional - that's real. It's not just something on a piece of paper or a website. It's in how we interact with each other.
Our technology and solutions truly differentiate us from our competitors. The workflow we offer and our detailed knowledge of the industry are kind of the magic behind the scenes. It's that combination of knowledge, teamwork, and delivering an exceptional solution in our platform that differentiates MyMedlogix products and services.
